One of my little known guilty pleasures is collecting books about food, not just cookbooks – of which I have way more than I’ll ever need – but books about other people’s experiences with food, in the kitchen, on their travels, in their unique culture. It fascinates me how we all view what we eat so differently and have such different experiences with turning a raw ingredient into a meal. I enjoy reading all kinds of food related books, from Anthony Bourdain’s stories of the steamy kitchens of New York City in Kitchen Confidential, to the trials and tribulations of running a vegan food truck in Street Vegan by Adam Sobel, and the accounts of the pastry chef David Lebowitz’s challenges when he moved to Paris in L’Appart. I can spend hours pouring over new recipes and glossy photographs of some delicious new dish. I just eat this stuff up. So here I plan on sharing some of my favorite reads and cookbooks in the hope that you’ll enjoy them as much as I do.
I’m always looking for new books to indulge myself with, so if you have a favorite let me know – maybe I’ll add it to the list!
